A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO GUN VIOLENCE WOULD SAVE YOUNG LIVES

28%

Overall, Illinois saw a 27 percent increase in firearms deaths between 2019 and 2020.

30%

An analysis of that data  showed firearm-related deaths among children ages 1-19 increased by 30 percent from 2019 to 2020, compared with a 13.5 percent increase in the older group during the same time period.

33.4%

Overall, researchers who analyzed the CDC data said, the increase in child firearms deaths was driven by a 33.4 percent increase in firearms homicides, which disproportionately affect young people.

Across the state of Illinois, over 400,000 students are currently enrolled in afterschool programs. However, the unmet need for afterschool programming leaves over 740,000 students waiting to enroll in afterschool and over 430,000 alone and unsupervised in the afterschool hours. In other words, for every student who gets to reap the benefits of afterschool programs, two more would participate if one were available.

 CHICAGO CHILDREN EQUESTRIAN CENTER
IS CRITICAL TO DECREASING JUVENILE CRIME IN OUR COMMUNITY

The evidence from high-quality afterschool programs from across the country demonstrates that these programs yield positive outcomes, including reducing crime and improving students’ behavior, academic performance, and graduation rates. Unfortunately, these proven programs are not available to all children who need and want the opportunity. To begin closing that gap, state and federal funding will be needed to expand the Chicago Children Equestrian Center.

Chicago Children Equestrian Center knows that high-quality afterschool / summer programming is critical to decreasing juvenile crime and victimization and to putting kids on the right track for success later in life. We stand ready to work with policymakers, corporations. and government agencies to provide more kids with access to our high-quality afterschool / summer programs.
